Paul Rugg was the voice of Freakazoid, as well as a story editor and writer on the series. He also served as producer in the second season.
Rugg got his start as an improv writer and actor with the performing companies the L.A. Connection and the Acme Performers (where he met friend and Freakazoid! collaborator John P. McCann). Rugg and McCann were both hired as writers on the first season of Animaniacs; Rugg was also a supervising story editor on that series, despite it being his first job on an animated series. Senior producer Tom Ruegger subsequently brought the two men over to run Freakazoid!
When Rugg was promoted to producer on Freakazoid!, he quit his position on Animaniacs to devote himself full-time to Freakazoid! Following the cancellation of Freakazoid! Rugg (along with John McCann and Doug Langdale) worked on the pilot for a prime time show starring Daffy Duck which was not picked up by the network.[1] He left Warner Bros. Animation following the rejection of the Daffy script.
