Freak-A-Con! 2018 was a livestreamed event reuniting the show's crew to discuss the show's beginnings. The event was filmed on March 16, 2018, in senior producer/writer Tom Ruegger's garage, with the running joke that they forgot to actually invite anyone to the "convention." In addition to Ruegger, other participants were producer/story editor/writer/voice of Freakazoid Paul Rugg, announcer Joe Leahy, producer/artist Mitch Schauer, composers Steve and Julie Bernstein, and writer Paul Dini.
Richard Stone's demo for his first attempt at writing a Freakazoid! theme was also played publicly for the first time during this event. It is largely instrumental with Stone intermittently saying Freakzoid's name, in the style of 1950s and 1960s instrumental rock.
The full event can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZNQKQePPa4.
Producer/story editor/writer John P. McCann was unable to attend, but recorded a video interview conducted by Rugg which was meant to be played during the livestream. Due to technical issues, the video was unable to be played, but was released as its own standalone video after the event. It can be viewed at https://www.instagram.com/tv/B5svZYgAD6u/?igshid=7dfr0w60eahf. McCann quotes and parodies Joseph Cotten's portrayal of Jedediah Leland in Citizen Kane throughout the interview.
Sponsors of Freak-A-Con! 2018 included Rent-an-Audience of the Greater Conejo Valley, Anubis Market, and Happy Clown Breakfast Soup.
The event was directed by Troy Benjamin. The "audience" was played by Paul Rugg's family friend and aspiring actor Matthew Galvan. Tom Ruegger's wife Annie also appears briefly to take the laundry out of the dryer.
Gag Credit: Share this video with your friends, tell them you love them, be nice to each other, tell a stranger you love them, on second though, that might be kind of weird, maybe start by smiling at them and see where the natural social cues take you, anyway, push the like button, it makes us feel urpy in our tummies, but like, in a good way, why haven't we put a period in this paragraph, and shouldn't that last sentence have ended with a question mark? Ah, there it is. The sweet, sweet joy of punctuation.
